Money, money, money. It doesn't matter who you are, where you live, where you come from, no matter what you do in this life. Money is part of it. It's part of the plan. It doesn't matter what you want to do. It is there. So, why don't a lot of us understand it? Why aren't schools teaching us about money? And so here we are, we get into adulthood and we are mismanaging our money.
And here's, here's what we tell ourselves. This is what we hear. Money buys happiness. And you may not hear that directly, but it's indirectly, it's in the subliminal messages, it's in the commercials, it's in marketing, it's in what we see. We see people trying to get money to be happy. Even if we don't say it, even if we don't process it like that, it's what we see.
It's what is fed to our subconscious. What else do we say about money? It's the root of all evil. It turns people evil. It does bad things. It makes people do bad things, right? Except here's what I believe to be the truth about what it is that we believe about money. Money, number one, is just a tool. It's a form of exchange.
It's what we earn and get, and it's what we give to get. What we want, but it's just a tool. It has no feelings. It has no emotions. It works just the same for you as it does for me, as it does for Bill Gates. It is a tool that is it. But what we do is we attach a lot of meaning and value to money. We make money, a unit of measure against how much we mean, how much we value, how much other people value us.
We weigh it down with all of these things that, quite frankly, it doesn't care about. And so if we can shift our perspective, if we just do that first, if we can shift our perspective and say, look, regardless of what I'm making and where I'm spending my money, it's just a tool. It's how I'm using that tool that I really need to dig into.
And that's the purpose of this podcast, because it's always and never about the money. Which is why money isn't going to buy you happiness. Not really. What money buys you, really, is time. And what you do with that time is what creates your happy. Now, let's be honest, because we're going to be brutally honest on this podcast.
Money definitely helps. It definitely helps. We're not going to deny that. But how many times in history have we seen people with more money than they know what to do with? Be depressed. Be miserable. Commit suicide. They're not happy. No amount of money was going to bring them happy. So we're also told money is the root of all evil.
Here's what I believe. Money is a mirror. Money reflects the user's intention. It's just a tool. It's what you do with that tool that other people see and tend to come to the conclusion that money is evil. That person was that person before the money. The decisions that they made after they got the money were driven by their intentions.
Money is not the root of all evil money. Just magnifies the actions of people who may not have good intentions or have the potential. To have not the best intentions. Nothing good was ever done without money in history either. Look at anything that was accomplished in history that you think is valuable and meaningful and created real positive, phenomenal change in this world.
As we know it, I guarantee you it wasn't done without money. Money is always part of the plan always. So when we start to see money as a tool. And a mirror as to who we are and what our intentions are and what our mindset and habits are that are showing through money. We find a lot of different things.
Sometimes it's how we were raised from ages zero to seven is called your imprint period. And there's been a lot of research behind this from zero to seven. We're a sponge. We take in everything around us. We develop and form over 50% of our core values and beliefs during this imprint period. And those are really hard to change.
So let's think about what we see in the beginning of our lives around money. And more often than not, the story goes something to the tune of money's hard to make. You gotta work really hard for it. Only certain people have access to it. I have to sacrifice all of my time, all of my energy, all of my mental health, sometimes my physical health, to get money.
Having too much of it Is a bad thing that makes you greedy. That makes you a bad person when you have more money than you need. What did you see around money growing up? Did your parents argue about it? Did they fight about it? Did they sit down at the kitchen table and talk about it openly? Was it a conversation it was really comfortable to have?
We all grow up with our own experiences around money, but if we take the time to actually look at what we saw and then observe the habits and mindset that we have around money now in our adult life, we can learn a lot. We can realize that maybe what we thought was true, that's showing up in my money.
Maybe that's not really true. Maybe we can shift our perspective. Once we realize these things, maybe we can start looking at it differently. Maybe we can start learning about it. Maybe schools can start teaching it. Parents can learn so they can teach it to their kids. Maybe we can start to see money for what it really is.
A tool, a tool that some people know how to leverage better than others. And also a mirror, a reflection, because it's always a never about the money. Anything that you're not happy with around your money really doesn't have to do with the money. So how do we figure this out? We go what I call three layers deep.
If you look at your money situation and say, I'm not making enough money, it's really hard to make. Ask yourself why and answer it three times. Three layers deep. Well, why do you think that it's going to be really hard for you to make more money? Well, I don't have a degree and I don't have a lot of experience and I'm just not sure.
And I don't know these things that would get me a different job or get me in a different place or to be able to start a business. Okay. Why do you believe those things about yourself? Well, growing up, both of my parents worked in, you know, a certain environment for 20 years and we always just skated by and they always wanted more money, of course, but it was just so hard for them and they couldn't find work and their skill set was limited, so let's go the third layer deep.
Why do you believe that what you saw growing up has to be your truth? Uh, there's something magic that happens when you go three layers deep and money can be One of the most helpful mirrors in your life because money is showing you your habits and your beliefs So once you start to understand money understand how it works and you're able to see the story That your money is telling you about yourself That's what gives you the power to change your story.
And that is why I created this podcast Because I've been doing this for a really, really long time. And I've seen a lot of different money stories. I've heard a lot of different scenarios. I've seen a lot of transformation. And I'll tell you this. When somebody is able to transform their money situation, know that they transformed their mind.
And that's why it's always and never about the money. If you liked this episode, be sure to show us some love by subscribing and turning on those notifications.
